FUTURE EDUCATOR - ASPIRING HISTORIAN
mADELINE wARD
Madeline Lee Ward is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in History and Social Studies Education with a minor in Spanish at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. History, learning, and writing are among Madeline's most cherished lifelong passions, and she has always dreamed of sharing these ideas and treasures with students as a trained educator.Born and raised in North Carolina, Madeline is fascinated by many facets of history, but she is especially interested in perspectives that have traditionally been left out of history books - including those of women, children, the working class, and the daily lives of average people. In her free time, she enjoys exploring these themes through her own family history. In fact, within her family, Madeline is the most celebrated genealogist of her generation. She becomes excessively excited over antique photographs, epherema, and heirlooms. In 2021, Madeline traveled to and lived in the state of Puebla, Mexico to work as an assistant teacher in a small English school. Madeline gained valuable skills in the classroom and assisted local teachers in planning and executing lesson plans. Through English education, Madeline shared American history and culture with students of all ages, and learned a lot about a history and culture apart from her own. In her future role as a bilingual educator, Madeline aims to meet the needs of multilingual, immigrant, and/or ESL learner students and families.Madeline is looking forward to student teaching through Appalachian State.
